CaptainU Coach

Project Overview

CaptainU is a multifaced software platform to bridge the gap for high student-athletes who want to play sports at the university level. In other words, it helps them get recruited by college coaches. It does this from both sides, with a very different suite of tools between the two kinds of users: the athletes (and their parents) aiming for the big leagues and the coaches looking for talented athletes.

This project centered on the Coaches’ side of things and involved building an app that they could use to track prospective recruits while at games and events.

The app is available at the App Store and Google Play, but it you can’t get far into the app without having an existing paid account.

Goal

Create an app that allows coaches to view pertinent information such as team rosters and event info while on the field.

My Role

I worked closely with product and development leads to build the UI and UX designs of nearly the entire app.

Results

The app released on iOS and Android with a positive reception. Plenty of user research forthcoming!

Try the high-fidelity prototype!

I always enjoy making prototypes of any size, but for this project I was able to put together the biggest and most complicated prototype I've yet made. It was built with Sketch designs using Protopie, which allows very fine control of interactions as well as the use of variables and code. The result is a very interactive prototype that reflects the actual app to a high degree.
